Meditation Guidance by Roberta Flack

Taking it easy on a cold wet November Saturday afternoon. Deservingly so too, coming after two long long weeks. Got some old soul music playing and then, and then. ….on the outro to Roberta Flack “Go up Moses” I hear her saying this

My people, let pharaoh go
You don’t need him; you don’t need his tricks, you don’t need his trinkets
Let pharaoh go
Pharaoh doesn’t want, but he needs you
My people, let pharaoh go
Without you there is no pharaoh
So all you have to do to let him go is to let him go
Just wake up tomorrow morning and say
“Bye, pharaoh… Honey”

And I start to wonder if Roberta was into some Buddhism. The lyrics credits include Jesse Jackson and maybe it was a preacher not a song writer that was responsible for this part, I don’t know. But I do know the truth of these words. Written not for this white aging British man, but relevant and apposite without doubt.

Great meditation instructions “let pharaoh go…. Without you there is no pharaoh”

Thank you Roberta, thank you.
